Smart Phone vs Smart Phone
iPhone vs Samsung: today I will be comparing the iPhone 4s (which I will simply refer to as the iPhone) to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus (which I will refer to as the Samsung). The display is usually the first thing one notices on a new smart phone so we might as well start with that, display wise the iPhone and the Samsung are very similar were the iPhone has decided to stick to the trusty 3.5 inch retina display that made it such a hit the Samsung has went with a different approach the Samsung has a 4.65 inch super AMOLED display with 720p HD resolution now although it is impressive that the Samsung has managed to fit a full 720x1280 resolution on such a small display is impressive until you measure by pixels per inch (ppi), if you were to do so you would find that the iPhone still had an advantage over the Samsung, the iPhone has a ppi of 326 where the Samsung only has a ppi of 316, does this make a real difference? Not at all but it puts taglines like "720p HD" in perspective. Both the iPhone and the Samsung have crisp displays with clear blacks, uniform whites and vibrant colours, the only thing the display really differ are in the size, while some people may prefer the larger display on the Samsung for browsing and just general use other's may prefer a more compact approach, and the approach that the iPhone's smaller display provides.
The next thing that would be noticed is the structural design and overall look of the phone, the size and shape of a phone can greatly effect the popularity of the product and not just in a visual manner either, when you get a new phone you want it to be comfortable and easy to hold also you want it fit well and not annoy when it's in your pocket, also the phone looking stylish doesn't hurt either.
The Samsung: The Samsung differs to the iPhone's straight design in that the shape of the Samsung is curved, this allows the phone to fit snugly and more comfortably against the leg or chest and allows the phone to be a little thicker without causing any extra discomfort. Samsung has also taken a new approach in that their smart phone no longer have separate buttons, the Samsung's buttons are part of the display in a form that has been named "virtual buttons" this allows the buttons to be hid when not in use and to be illuminated when the need arises. Another important feature to note is that the Samsung's back cover is made of a material called "hyper skin" which is said to help to maintain a firm grip on the phone. The Samsung has a height of 135.5 mm, a width of 67.9 mm and a depth of 8.9 mm.
The iPhone: The iPhone 4s hasn't changed all that much to the iPhone 4, on a visual standpoint anyway. The iPhone 4s still features a straight, slim design as all iPhone's and still features and external antenna on the side of the phone, the antenna has be tweaked a fraction to get rid of the"depth grip" problem that the iPhone 4 suffered. The iPhone's dimensions are a height of 115.2 mm, a width of 58.6 mm and is 9.3 mm in depth, over all the smaller display size comes with a over all smaller design.
Next thing to take a look at is the speed of the device, now speed is another area were certain phrases are used to misinform consumers or to create the belief that the device is better than it actually is, for example hardware wise the Samsung as ahead of the iPhone, so if both phones were made by the same company and used the same operating system the Samsung would be the obvious winner but their not, the iPhone for example is designed with the operating system in mind so that although the hardware may be lesser than the Samsung (although not by much) it can use the hardware it does have more effectively with the operating system it uses (also not by much) but at the end of the day it is unfair and unwise to compare the two phones speed based on specs alone, there are many factors that cannot be controlled by the manufacturer that can effect speed e.g. A phone that has more content on it (apps, music, photos, etc) will be slightly faster than a phone that has less content, another example is that a phone that is updated more often will be faster than one that is in need for an update, so at the end of the day a phone's speed can be affected by how well you look after your phone and you should not choose a phone based on the hardware it has.
Now some of you maybe wondering if one has a better call quality than the other, well since the iPhone 4s' antenna has been tweaked from the iPhone 4 you no longer have to worry about the "death grip" problem as a result both phones have excellent call quality and there isn't a difference that I could detect.
Another thing I wonder was "is one better for gaming and productivity " The answer is no not really, now that the same programs are available on both the iPhone and the android you can still play your favourite games on both devices.
Now lets talk battery's, when you are using the phone for "2G talk" the difference is very small with the iPhone having about 8 hours of battery life and the Samsung having about 8 hours and 18 minutes but when it comes to just being left on standby the iPhone is quite a bit behind with 8 days and 8 hours were the Samsung will last for about 12 days and 2 hours. If you are like me and just charge your phone when you aren't using it (like a normal human being) then the shorter standby time for the iPhone should not be a problem but if you really want a longer standby time the Samsung is your best bet.
A huge concern for every attention seeking teen on facebook is how good the camera is (stupid duck face) and it is not a good idea to chose which is best based only on mega pixels (MP) but on the other hand the iPhone is the clear winner with its 8 MP camera compared to the Samsung's 5 MP camera.
